Pune: Drowning Incident Claims Lives Of Two Children In Bhima River In Shirur

Shirur, 22nd May 2023: A heartbreaking incident unfolded on Sunday afternoon when two young children lost their lives in a drowning incident in the Bhima river near Shirur, Pune. Despite an extensive search operation by firefighters, the whereabouts of the two children could not be determined by evening, leading to the suspension of the search due to darkness.

The victims have been identified as 16-year-old Anurag Vijay Mandala and Gaurav Gurulinga Swamy. Both boys had ventured for a swim in the Bhima river on Sunday, unaware of the water levels rising due to the opening of the river’s dams. Unfortunately, the unexpected flow of water resulted in their tragic drowning. Eyewitnesses present at the scene raised an alarm, desperately calling for help.

Upon receiving the distressing news, the Shikrapur Police and personnel from the Pune Metropolitan Development Authority (PMRDA) fire brigade rushed to the location. A search operation was immediately initiated to locate the two children who had drowned. However, due to the arrival of darkness, the search had to be called off.
