Pune, February 4, 2021: The traffic woes in the city have started increasing again as the restrictions imposed to curb the COVID-19 pandemic have been relaxed.

Double parking and unruly driving on most roads in the city has become a serious problem leading to traffic congestions in many places.

There is a shortage of parking space as several people visit restaurants and markets for shopping in the city every weekend.
The vehicles parked on both sides of the roads are causing congestion on the already narrow lanes.

The roads witnessing high traffic congestion include Apte Road, Jangli Maharaj Road, Fergusson College Road, Laxmi Road, and roads in Sadashiv Peth, Narayan Peth, Mandai area. The double parking on these roads has also made it difficult for pedestrians to walk through the areas.

The narrow lanes near Laxmi Road are also jammed as tempos and trucks carrying goods are being parked there.

The traffic problems in the city had reduced when restrictions were imposed to curb the spread of the COVID-19. However, now that the lockdown has been relaxed, the roads in the city and markets have become crowded again, leading to traffic woes.

Citizens are facing traffic problems as Apte Road, Ghole Road, Deccan Road have narrow lanes and lead to traffic jams. Although the traffic police are taking action against the vehicle owners that are double parking on roads, it has become difficult for them to search and track every car owner on the streets.

DCP (Traffic) Rahul Shrirame said that the traffic police receive several complaints about double parking. Every weekend and other days, they take action against vehicles parked on both sides of the road in crowded areas. Double parking causes traffic jams. The traffic police are taking stern action against rule violators. Senior police inspectors from all traffic police departments in the city have been ordered to take action against people who are parking on the roads.
