Pune: Doctor Booked For Threatening RPI Leader Parshuram Wadekar

Pune, 30th September 2024: The Bund Garden Police have registered a case against city-based radiologist Dr. Amit Luthra for allegedly issuing death threats and using casteist slurs against Parshuram Wadekar, a prominent leader of the Republican Party of India (Athawale faction). The case has sparked controversy, especially due to the mention of MP Udayanraje Bhosale’s name in the formal complaint.

The altercation between the two arose after Wadekar intervened to assist a woman who had approached him for help. The woman had already filed an FIR against Dr. Amit, alleging criminal charges, with the Pune Police.

Wadekar, who serves as the state organization secretary of RPI (A), stated that he stepped in following a formal request from the woman, who was seeking assistance due to ongoing harassment by her husband, Dr. Amit. She also claimed that he was attempting to seize control of her clinic in East Pune.

The situation escalated when Dr. Amit, angered by Wadekar’s involvement, allegedly confronted the RPI leader at a government guest house on August 24. According to Wadekar, Dr. Amit, accompanied by six others, threatened him and used casteist slurs during their heated exchange. Wadekar further alleged that Dr. Amit warned him to stay out of the matter and later followed him, hurling verbal abuse.

“I fear for my life,” Wadekar stated. “After that incident, I’ve noticed people following me. Given the tragic murder of corporator Vanraj Andekar, anything could happen to me. Dr. Amit has money and connections to threaten me.”

With reference to the FIR filed against Dr. Amit at Vimantal Police station, It has also been alleged that a PSI of the Viman Nagar Police Station accompanied Dr. Amit (who was on interim bail) to the clinic to assist him and on occasions he used impolite and rough language while speaking to the female victims and witnesses.

ACP Nikam confirmed the filing of the FIR to Punekar News. Senior Police Inspector Ravindra Gaikwad of Bund Garden Police Station also confirmed that a complaint had been received from Wadekar. An FIR has been registered against Dr. Amit under relevant sections, including the Prevention of Atrocities Act. The investigation is ongoing.
