Pune District Sees Heavy Rains: Safety Measures and Restrictions Imposed

Pune, 25th July 2024: Pune City, Pimpri Chinchwad, and the rural areas of the district have been experiencing relentless rainfall over the past few days. As of 7:30 AM today, Lavasa has recorded a staggering 453 mm of rain, with significant rainfall measured in various parts of the district.

According to Krishnakant Hosalikar from the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Pune, the recorded rainfall till 7:30 this morning includes:

– Lavasa: 453 mm
– Lonavla: 322 mm
– Nimgiri: 232 mm
– Malin: 180 mm
– Chinchwad: 175 mm
– NDA and Talegaon: 167 mm
– Vadgaon Sheri: 166 mm
– Pashan: 117 mm
– Shivajinagar: 114 mm
– Hadapsar: 108 mm
– Dapodi: 102 mm
– Haveli: 82 mm
– Magarpatta: 81 mm

The continuous downpour has led to a rapid increase in the water levels of various dams in the district. The Khadakwasla dam, in particular, has been discharging water into the Mutha River basin at a rate of 35,574 cusecs since 6 AM. The dam area has received an average rainfall of 100 mm, with over 200 mm recorded at the ghats. Further adjustments in water discharge may be made depending on ongoing rainfall.

Given the heavy to very heavy rain forecast for the district today, the Meteorological Department has urged citizens to exercise caution. In response to the situation, authorities have imposed restrictions on several areas to ensure public safety.

The Executive Engineers of the Khadakwasla Irrigation Department have prohibited access to the following locations:

– Bhide Bridge
– Garware College Khillare Vasti College Campus
– Shitala Devi Temple Deccan
– Sangam Bridge Settlement
– Jayantrao Tilak Bridge (Near PMC building)
– Holkar Bridge (Khadki)

These measures aim to prevent any potential hazards due to fluctuating water levels and ongoing rainfall. Citizens are advised to adhere to these guidelines and avoid these areas until further notice.
