Pune: District Court To Get Space Of 15,000 Sq Ft In Metro’s Multi-Modal Hub

Pune, 4th September 2024: In order to expand the District and Sessions Court in Pune, as much as 15,000 sq ft of space has been made available to the court in the multi-modal hub of the metro which is being built in the premises of the government warehouse in Shivajinagar. The government has sanctioned a fund of Rs 15,04,59,000 in principle for the construction of the same.

In a meeting held in February 2015 between the then Chief Justice of the Bombay High Court and the then Chief Minister, there was a discussion regarding the expansion of District and Sessions Courts. At that time, it was decided to acquire the warehouse space near the court for expansion. The place was under the jurisdiction of the Department of Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Protection. However, later the place was handed over to Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation.

On 24 June 2017, in a meeting held by Supreme Court Justice Abhay Oak and officials of Mahametro, it was decided that 15,000 square feet of space would be provided to the District and Sessions Court with parking in the multi-modal hub of Metro.

Meanwhile, Metro said that Rs 15 crores should be paid at the time of transfer of the space or the amount as per the market value at the time of transfer. Accordingly, the construction plan and map of the place should be submitted to the government and the High Court. After the transfer of the place, the District Court should carry out the process of registering the place through the district collector, the government has made funds available in other conditions.

Adv Santosh Khamkar, President, Pune Bar Association (PBA) informed that a request will be made to the High Court regarding the use of this warehouse space for courts and lawyers. Necessary follow-up in this regard will be done through PBA.
