Pune District Collector Eases Noise Pollution Rules For Festive Occasions, 15 Days This Year

Pune, 16th February 2023: The Collector of Pune, Dr. Rajesh Deshmukh, has issued an order to relax the limit on the use of loudspeakers and loudspeaker systems for 15 days in the district, in view of the festivals and celebrations in 2023. The order comes in accordance with the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Amendment Rules, 2017, set by the Central Government. The state government has authorized District Collectors to announce exemptions for up to 15 days, except in closed places like auditoriums, community halls, and banquet rooms.

Pune district will have 15 days of concession starting from 19th February for Shiv Jayanti, followed by 14th April for Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Jayanti, 1st May for Maharashtra Day, and 23rd to 27th September for Ganapati Festival. The exemption will also be allowed for Eid-e-Milad and Anant Chaturdashi on 28th September, Navratri Festival on 23rd and 24th October, Diwali on 12th November, Christmas on 25th December, and the remaining two days of the year, along with important events as required.

The order clarifies that loudspeakers and loudspeaker systems must be used within the prescribed limit of sound, and noise should not exceed the limit set for the area. It also states that the exemption is not applicable in peaceful areas. It is hoped that the order will allow for a peaceful and enjoyable festival season while also maintaining the balance between celebrations and noise control in the district.
