Pune: DIAT organized 5-day hands – on laboratory workshop on Futuristic Materials and Technologies (FUTERMAT) from 2nd – 6th Sept

Khadakwasla, 3rd September 2024: The Department of Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Defence Institute of Advanced Technology (DIAT), Pune has organized 5-day hands – on laboratory workshop on Futuristic Materials and Technologies (FUTERMAT) from 2nd – 6th Sept, 2024

This hands-on workshop will be conducted by well experienced scientists showcasing synergistic lab and practical demonstration sessions. in terms of progressive materials and technologies. The expert-led session comprehends multitudinous domains encompassing Additive Manufacturing, Functional Materials, Defence Materials, and Computational Materials Engineering.

This workshop renders unparalleled networking fortuities with industrialists, scientists, peers, and potential collaborators also covers important panel discussions by Sr. Scientist / Technical experts which could be roadmap for the department in supporting Atmanirbhar Bharat. Around 50 No of participants from different background in the field of metallurgical engineering and material sciences are participating. In addition, 120 M.Tech Students of the department are part of the workshop as to have them exclusive exposure of futuristic materials and technologies including lab handling.

The event was graced by the presence of Chief Guest Dr. Y. Sreenivas Rao, DG (NS&M), DRDO expressed that for Atmanirbhar Bharat, it is important that the approach for any technology readiness should be either as a consortium or working in teams. Dr. Rajkumar Singh, Sr. Director, Bharat Forge Ltd., Guest of Honor, expressed that DIAT’s close collaboration with industries for their dissertation shall definitely supports students’ placements and stated that Bharat Forge would always in support to the nation for developing various indigenous products. Prof. Balasubramanian, Dean (Acad) and HoD has expressed his gratitude of all dignitaries and organizing team for making the workshop grand success which could be a value addition chapter for all the participants.

On this occasion, Dr. BHVS Narayana Murthy, Vice Chancellor, DIAT extended the warm wishes to the organizing team. He also emphasized the role of Computational Materials Engineering (comprising Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning) in the futuristic discovery of materials and elated that these emerging themes have covered in this workshop. He further expressed that such training programme will be benefitted to students, research scholars and professionals to better understanding the Futuristic Materials and Technologies.
