Pimpri Chinchwad, 1st August 2024: The Deputy Commissioner of the Anti-Encroachment Department, along with six ward officers of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), has issued notices to address unauthorized encroachments, including constructions, iron sheds, hotels, pubs, and bars across various parts of Pimpri Chinchwad city. Additionally, the PCMC administration has instructed encroachers along the riverbanks to remove their encroachments.

Three rivers—Pavana, Indrayani, and Mula—flow through Pimpri Chinchwad city. Extensive filling and encroachment along these rivers have led to incidents of water entering residential areas during recent rains, resulting in the relocation of over five thousand citizens. The issue of unauthorized constructions, iron sheds, and encroachments on footpaths in various parts of Pimpri Chinchwad has also emerged. The Anti-Encroachment Department of PCMC was reportedly neglecting to take action on these issues. Additional Commissioner of PCMC, Pradeep Jambhale, stated that notices have been issued to nine individuals, including the Deputy Commissioner of the Anti-Encroachment Department, six ward officers, and two beat inspectors.

Instructions have been issued to encroachers on the riverbanks to remove their encroachments. A decision on whether to take action against these encroachments now or after the monsoon will be made following discussions with the PCMC Commissioner. PCMC has eight ward offices in Pimpri Chinchwad, and unauthorized constructions and iron sheds are present in all these areas. However, the Additional Commissioner has issued notices to nine individuals, including the Deputy Commissioner of the Anti-Encroachment Department, six ward officers, and two beat inspectors. It has been reported that two ward officers were ‘shielded.’

A separate app is being developed by PCMC to provide information on encroachments in Pimpri Chinchwad, including details on which areas have been encroached on, how many encroachers have received notices, and how many people have taken action against them.

There are 107 unauthorized hotels, pubs, and bars owned by leaders of various political parties and their relatives in different parts of Pimpri Chinchwad. Of these, 66 are fully unauthorized, and 28 are partially unauthorized. Some of these establishments are over 50 years old. Therefore, the decision to take action against these hotels will be made after discussions with the Commissioner, said Pradeep Jambhale.
