Pune: Daund Police Bust Online Matka Gambling Den, Seize Cash and Equipment

Daund, 25th June 2024: Pune Rural Police have cracked down on an online matka gambling operation, registering a case against a young man in the Daund area. This marks the second raid on this den within seven months.

The operation, conducted on 24th June, targeted a gambling den located at Shalimar Chowk in Daund City, adjacent to a country liquor shop. During the raid, authorities seized tablets, television sets, online gambling paraphernalia, and cash totaling Rs. 7,500. The complaint leading to the case was filed by Constable Amol Garudi of the Daund Police Station. Abraham Thomson Dorkhande, 31, a resident of Shalimar Chowk, Daund, was identified as the individual managing the matka gambling activities.

Earlier, on 3rd November 2023, a citizen of Daund taluka reported the gambling activities at this establishment through the police control room’s toll-free number 112. Following this, action was taken against Abraham Dorkhande, and the site was targeted.

Despite ongoing operations by the Pune Rural Police’s Local Crime Branch (LCB) and Daund Police against online matka and lottery operations, continuous daily activities of online matka in Daund taluka by a known gang have not resulted in significant action against the operators.
