Pune: Cyber Fraudsters Scam Two Victims of Rs 62 Lakh in Fake Stock Market Investment Scheme

Pune, 18th April 2025: In Pune, cyber criminals have defrauded two individuals, including a 46-year-old woman from Shivajinagar and a 63-year-old man from Baner, of a combined Rs 62 lakh by luring them with promises of high returns through fake stock market investments. Police have registered cases at Shivajinagar and Baner Police Stations following complaints from the victims, who were contacted by unknown fraudsters earlier this year.
According to police reports, the woman was approached via her mobile phone in March by scammers posing as stock market brokers. Initially, she received some returns, which built her trust, prompting her to invest a total of Rs 31.6 lakh over a month into the fraudsters’ bank accounts. When payments stopped and communication ceased, she realised she had been duped and filed a complaint.
Similarly, a senior citizen from Baner was convinced to invest Rs 31.2 lakh under similar pretences but did not receive any returns, leading him to report the fraud to the police.
