Pune, 25th March 2024: A 50-year-old doctor residing in the Baner area fell victim to cybercriminals, losing a staggering sum of Rs one crore. The doctor has lodged a complaint with the Shivajinagar police station, prompting an investigation into the matter.

According to the complainant’s statement, the fraudsters reached out to him via his mobile phone, claiming that a parcel addressed to him had been intercepted by authorities at Mumbai airport. Purportedly, the package contained five passports, illicit drugs, foreign currency, and a laptop. Deceptively posing as officials from the Mumbai Crime Branch, the scammers insisted that immediate action was required and urged the doctor to report to their office for interrogation.

In a bid to lend credibility to their scheme, the perpetrators even adorned their social media profiles with the insignia of the Mumbai Police. They coerced the victim into divulging bank account details under the pretext of verification, subsequently siphoning off a staggering sum of Rs one crore from his account. The case has since been registered against the cybercriminals. Police Inspector Anil Mane is conducting further investigation.
