Pune Court Grants Four-Day Police Custody For Attacker Of Woman In Sadashiv Peth Who Rejected His Romantic Advances

Pune, 28th June 2023: A judicial magistrate court has ordered a four-day police custody for a young man who attempted to kill a woman on the road in Sadashiv Peth yesterday after she refused to enter into a romantic relationship with him. The accused was presented in court today morning.
During the attack, the young woman suffered injuries to her head and hand. The 20-year-old victim filed a complaint at Visharmbag police station, leading to the registration of a case against the accused, identified as Shantanu Jadhav of Dongargaon in Mulshi taluka, under various sections including attempted murder.
Fortunately, two individuals named Leshpal Javalge and Harshad Patil intervened during the attack, apprehending Jadhav and preventing further harm to the woman. Subsequently, members of the public who had gathered at the spot also confronted Jadhav and handed him over to the police. Following his arrest, Jadhav was produced in court on Wednesday morning.
The public prosecutor, Varsarani Jadhav, requested police custody for the accused to facilitate further investigation into the crime. Accordingly, the court has granted police custody for Jadhav until July 1. Police Sub-Inspector Poonam Patil is currently leading the investigation.
A blood sample has been collected from Jadhav for chemical analysis, which will be crucial for the ongoing investigation. Authorities are keen to ascertain the origin of the weapon used by Jadhav. Additionally, they are exploring the possibility of Jadhav acting under the influence or at the behest of someone else.
Reports circulated on Tuesday that the victim’s friend, who was present during the attack, managed to escape. However, it was actually the friend who first endured an assault from Jadhav.
The CCTV footage capturing the incident has gone viral, revealing the initial attack on the friend. She was riding a bike with the friend when Jadhav intercepted them around 10 am near Hotel Nagpur in Sadashiv Peth yesterday. There was an argument and Jadhav whipped out the weapon and attacked. As a result, the friend sustained injuries to their left hand but has since been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment. Jadhav then chased and attacked the woman.
