Pune Court Awards Two Years Jail Term To Man For Manhandling Traffic Policeman

Pune, 1st July 2023: A sessions court has sentenced a man to two years of rigorous imprisonment for assaulting a traffic policeman at Gangadham Chowk.

The perpetrator, identified as Gafur Shahabuddin Sheikh residing at Gultekadi, had manhandled policeman Anand Prakash Gaddure. An FIR was registered against him at Market Yard Police Station. The incident occurred on March 29, 2014, around 7:30 am at Gangadham Chowk.

Policeman Gaddure was responsible for managing traffic flow at Gangadham Chowk when the incident took place. During his duties, the accused rider flagrantly disregarded the signal not once, but on two separate occasions. Gaddure approached the young man, seeking an explanation for his blatant violation. However, instead of offering any justification, the rider caught the policeman and proceeded to violently tear his uniform. Fortunately, an eyewitness named Chetan Bhutada swiftly alerted the police control room upon witnessing the distressing incident. The police promptly responded to the situation, reaching the spot in a timely manner and successfully apprehending the assailant.

Consequently, the case was registered at the Market Yard Police Station. During the court proceedings, the testimony of Chetan Bhutada emerged in support of policeman Gaddure’s account. Relying on the evidence presented, the court sentenced the accused to two years of imprisonment.
