Maval, 26th October 2024: An Indian National Congress leader in Maval has been suspended for six years for attending the nomination filing of a Mahayuti candidate for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections. The action was taken against Congress leader Mauli Dabhade for being present at the nomination filing of sitting MLA Sunil Shelke of Maval, who is from the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), a Mahayuti constituent. MLA Sunil Shelke and Mauli Dabhade are related.

Dabhade was previously with the NCP and contested the 2014 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections from Maval under the NCP banner. He is currently with the Congress and serves as a Director of Pune District Central Co-operative Bank Limited. The Mahavikas Aghadi has yet to decide on a candidate for Maval, and it remains unclear whether they will support independent candidate Bapu Bhegade.

Despite this, Dabhade was present at MLA Shelke’s nomination filing. The Congress, being a constituent of Mahavikas Aghadi, views this as a breach of party discipline, as MLA Shelke is a Mahayuti candidate. As a result, Dabhade has been suspended for six years by order of Maharashtra Congress State President Nana Patole, Congress Pune District President, and Purandar MLA Sanjay Jagtap.
