Shivajinagar, 7th October 2024: A college student was robbed of a gold chain valued at ₹70,000 after being threatened with a koyta (a sharp weapon). The youth sustained injuries from the attack. Deccan police station has registered a case against the two thieves involved.

The injured victim has been identified as Sairaj Anil Bhand, a resident of Nana Peth. A case has been lodged against two unknown individuals in connection with the incident.

According to police, Sairaj and his friend, Atharva Diddi, were standing near a pagoda in the Hanuman Tekdi area, close to Symbiosis College, on Saturday afternoon (5th October). Around 3:15 pm, two assailants approached them and allegedly began abusing them.

The robbers struck Sairaj on the head with the koyta and forcefully snatched his gold chain before fleeing the scene. Following the attack, Sairaj filed a complaint with the police, and authorities are currently tracking down the culprits. Police Sub-Inspector Mahesh Bhosale is leading the investigation.

This incident comes in the wake of the recent Bopdev Ghat gang-rape case, where a college girl and her friend were also threatened and robbed. In response to growing concerns, Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Dr. Neelam Gorhe recently met with Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, urging regular patrolling at Bopdev Ghat and other isolated areas in the city. Areas like Hanuman Tekdi, Vetal Tekdi, the hills along Pashan-Sus Road, and Baner Tekdi have seen similar incidents of robbery.
