Kondhwa, 26th March 2024: A concerning revelation has surfaced regarding the absence of a Medical Officer at the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) hospital in Sai Nagar for an entire month, leaving the administration in the hands of auxiliary staff. The lack of a medical officer has led to citizen inconvenience and dissatisfaction, with no knowledge of this situation among senior officials.

The hospital, staffed by three nurses and one clerk alongside the missing Medical Officer, last saw Dr. Yogesh Jedhe on duty on February 26th. Despite nearly a month passing, no replacement has been appointed.

Previously, the hospital attended to 40 to 50 patients daily, but this number has dwindled to 20 to 25 due to the absence of medical staff. Frustrated patients either seek treatment elsewhere or are redirected to alternative facilities by the existing staff, exacerbating the burden on private hospitals and inconveniencing locals.

Attempts to address the issue with PMC Chief Health Officer Bhagwan Pawar and Assistant Commissioner of Kondhwa-Yewalewadi Ward Office, Hemant Kirulkar, yielded no insight, highlighting a disconnect in information dissemination.

One citizen recounted their unpleasant experience at the hospital, where rudeness from staff and lack of vaccination services prompted a visit to Kamla Nehru Hospital, questioning the utility of the PMC clinic in such circumstances.

The absence of a medical officer has led to operational challenges and citizen dissatisfaction, prompting demands for immediate action to rectify the situation.
