Viman Nagar, 18th September 2023: The Association of Nagar Road Citizens Forum (ANRCF) has demanded the scrapping of the Nagar Road Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) without further delay.

The ANRCF, a citizen-led organization, has been campaigning against the BRTS for several years. It argues that the system has failed to meet its objectives of reducing traffic congestion and improving public transportation.

In a recent letter to the Maharashtra government and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), ANRCF convenor Qaneez Sukhrani said that the Nagar Road BRTS is a “complete failure”. She cited several reasons for this, including:

  • The system is not designed to global standards.
  • It has been poorly implemented and maintained.
  • It has caused a significant increase in accidents and fatalities.
  • It has led to traffic congestion and inconvenience for commuters.

Sukhrani also pointed out that the Nagar Road BRTS is not supported by any of the stakeholders, including the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the police, and the public.

She demanded that the state government scrap the BRTS immediately and take steps to improve public transportation in Pune.

The ANRCF’s demand has been supported by several other organizations and individuals. However, the state government has not yet made any decision on the matter.
