Pimpri-Chinchwad, 23rd June 2024: A sudden downpour this afternoon resulted in 114 mm of rain recorded in some parts of the city, causing significant flooding. The rain, accompanied by thunderstorms, began after a cloudy morning and lasted from 3:30 to 4:30 PM.

Areas including Pimpri, Chinchwad, Akurdi, Chikhali, and Moshi were heavily affected by the intense rain, which resembled a cloudburst. Many houses in slum areas were inundated with water, marking the first instance of such heavy rain this year.

The rapid accumulation of 114 mm of rain in just one hour led to knee-deep water on several roads and flooded numerous locations. Residents have criticized the municipal corporation for failing to clean the city’s drains, which exacerbated the flooding. Water entered some homes due to the blocked drains, highlighting the need for better maintenance and infrastructure preparedness.
