Pune: Chinchwad Hosts Largest Static Bicycle Line, Enters Guinness Records at ‘River Cyclothon’

Pimpri, 4th December 2023: In a remarkable display of community engagement and environmental advocacy, over 30,000 cyclists pedalled through the streets of Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad in the ‘River Cyclothon-2023.’

The event, conceptualized by Bhosari Legislative Assembly MLA Mahesh Landge, aimed to raise awareness about the cleanliness and conservation of the Indrayani River. Now in its sixth year, the Cyclothon has become a prominent annual initiative in the region.

The rally conveyed a powerful message of environmental responsibility, urging everyone to contribute to keeping the Indrayani River free from pollution. The event saw collaboration from various organizations, including Avirat Shramdaan, Cycle Mitra, Mahesh Dada Sports Foundation, Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, and the local police department.

Notably, the ‘River Cyclothon Team’ achieved a significant milestone by setting a Guinness World Record for the ‘Longest Line of Bicycles Static.’ The achievement was acknowledged with a certificate presented during the event. Key figures in attendance included PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh, Pimpri Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinaykumar Choubey, Additional Commissioner Pradeep Jambhale-Patil, and wrestler Narsingh Yadav.

Commending the efforts, Commissioner Shekhar Singh highlighted the PCMC administration’s commitment to environmental initiatives, with ‘River Cyclothon’ playing a crucial role. Police Commissioner Vinaykumar Choubey praised MLA Mahesh Landge for bringing the concept to life and expressed hope for a 35 km cycle rally in the coming year.

MLA Landge emphasized that the ‘River Cyclothon’ serves as a platform for environmental awareness and fitness promotion. Despite attempts from 60 countries to break Germany’s record, India emerged victorious, underscoring the global significance of the initiative. Landge extended gratitude to cyclists, environmentalists, and contributing organizations for their historic response to the rally, emphasizing the importance of their collective efforts in fostering a cleaner, healthier environment.
