Pune: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s Legacy to be Honored with Statue in London – Minister Mungantiwar

Pune, 20th December 2023: Cultural Affairs Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar announced that the revered tiger claws (wagh nakh) of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, used in the killing of Afzal Khan, will soon make their way to India.

In a momentous occasion attended by distinguished personalities like Air Vice Marshal Jayant Inamdar (retd), Milind Ekbote, Dheeraj Ghate, and Sunil Deodhar, Minister Mungantiwar revealed plans to erect a magnificent statue of Maharaj in London.

Expressing the state government’s commitment to preserving the memory of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Mungantiwar emphasized the historical significance of the Maratha warrior king, lauding him as the father of true democracy. The decision to install a grand statue in London is seen as a tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy, commemorating his courageous exploits and contributions to the establishment of Swarajya.

The event, attended by prominent individuals from various fields, highlighted the collective effort to honor and immortalize the iconic figure in the heart of London.

Minister Mungantiwar also revealed plans to approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a request to commemorate Maharaj’s coronation in the Parliament premises. Recognizing Maharaj as a symbol of true democracy, the proposal aims to create a significant occasion that reflects the values and principles upheld by the Maratha warrior king.
