Shivajinagar, 11th October 2024: The famous statue of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in Shivajinagar’s Deccan Corner is set to receive a new ‘Meghdambari’ from the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC). Additionally, the area surrounding the memorial and Garware subway will undergo beautification. To fund this project, the PMC’s standing committee has recently approved a tender worth Rs 47.27 lakh.

The statue of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj is located in Deccan Corner, Shivajinagar. A demand was made to the PMC for the installation of a Meghadambari over the full-length statue, as well as for the beautification of the surrounding locality. This request came from various social organizations. PMC Commissioner Dr Rajendra Bhosale, along with Chief Engineer of the Building Design Department Yuvraj Deshmukh, Executive Engineer Virendra Kelkar, and other officials, inspected the site. Following this, the Building Design Department of the PMC prepared a proposal for the project.

The proposal includes constructing a raised platform around the statue of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. An attractive Meghadambari will be erected using polyester resin, and another raised platform will be created to accommodate citizens who come to pay their respects. Steps will be built to access this area, and beautification will involve masonry work. The tender process has been initiated through the Building Design Department. In certain parts of Maharashtra, particularly in areas with a strong devotion to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the term “Meghdambari” refers to a shrine or structure dedicated to housing his image or relics.
