Pune: Chhagan Bhujbal Propels Modernization Of Kranti Jyoti Savitribai Phule National Memorial With A Nod To Historical Aesthetics

Pune, 10th December 2023: Minister of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Chhagan Bhujbal has spearheaded efforts to modernize the Kranti Jyoti Savitribai Phule National Memorial at Bhide Wada, blending contemporary elements with the historical ambience reminiscent of Savitribai’s era. Bhujbal, during a review meeting, emphasized the importance of preserving the legacy of Savitribai Phule, pledging the Maharashtra State Government’s support by allocating necessary funds for the memorial’s expansion.

Bhujbal urged the consideration of the National Monument Bhide Wada as the ‘first girls’ school’ of Savitribai Phule. In a competitive initiative, renowned architects will be tasked with crafting diverse plans, encompassing Savitribai Phule’s statue, authentic furniture, a playground, audio-visual facilities, and an old-fashioned facade within the school premises. The design will also accommodate necessary evacuation arrangements and dedicated parking spaces, considering the competitive educational landscape.

To adapt to the contemporary era, Bhujbal emphasized that the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) should evaluate the school’s structure and curriculum, aiming to produce empowered women officers. The committee overseeing the project has been directed to promptly initiate the memorial’s construction after finalizing the comprehensive plan. Bhujbal anticipates that the completed memorial will inspire numerous individuals to actively engage in social work.

Bhujbal directed the Directorate of Town Planning & Valuation to expedite the road reservation connecting the Mahatma Phule and Kranti Jyoti Savitribai Phule Memorials with the National Monument at Bhide Wada. Following the confirmation of the reservation, PMC is expected to initiate the land acquisition process. Necessary funds for these initiatives will be sought from the Maharashtra Government to ensure seamless progress.

Chhagan Bhujbal emphasized the importance of positively considering public demands, ensuring that the community’s aspirations are reflected in the ongoing development projects. This approach aligns with the broader goal of creating spaces that honour historical legacies while meeting the contemporary needs of the community.

During the meeting, PMC Additional Commissioner Vikas Dhakne and Directorate of Town Planning & Valuation Director Avinash Patil provided updates on the progress of the work, highlighting key aspects and next steps in the ambitious project to modernize the Kranti Jyoti Savitribai Phule National Memorial.
