Pune-Bound Airfares from Srinagar Cross Rs 20,000 After Pahalgam Terror Attack Triggers Panic

Reported by Akshata Pawar
Pune, 23rd April 2025: Panic has gripped tourists in Kashmir following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, prompting many to cut short their vacations and book immediate return flights. As a result, airfares from Srinagar have surged, with one-way tickets to cities like Pune crossing ₹20,000 on Wednesday.
“One way airfare from Srinagar to Delhi was costing Rs 65,000 today. It is only after government intervention that fares have been brought down”, said an expert from the industry.
Tourists trying to book last-minute flights encountered error messages such as “sold out,” “no flights available,” and “flights close to departure,” indicating a sharp rise in demand. Several flights have also been delayed, adding to the anxiety of stranded travelers.
To support affected residents, the Pune District Collector’s Office has activated an emergency control room for tourists from the district currently in Kashmir. So far, over 350 individuals from areas including Khed, Khadakwasla, PCMC, and Bibwewadi have sought assistance.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has issued an advisory urging airlines to increase flight operations from Srinagar. The DGCA emphasized the need for “uninterrupted connectivity” and requested airlines to scale up capacity and accommodate the sudden rush of passengers.
Additionally, the aviation regulator has directed airlines to waive cancellation and rescheduling charges to reduce the financial burden on travelers and extend maximum support during the crisis.
