Pune, 9th December 2024: The much-awaited Pune Book Festival 2024 promises to be a grand literary and cultural extravaganza, blending the joy of reading with innovative initiatives. Jointly organized by the Ministry of Education, the National Book Trust (NBT), and Savitribai Phule Pune University, the event will take place from December 14 to 22 at the Ferguson College Ground.

What to Expect
The festival will feature a grand book exhibition, cultural performances, seminars, and symposiums, offering something for everyone—from avid readers to casual visitors. Programs aimed at fostering creativity and promoting the culture of reading will be central to this year’s lineup.

“This year’s festival is unique not only because of its diverse offerings but also for its ambitious goal of creating three world records,” said an official from the organizing committee. These record-setting initiatives aim to secure a place in the Guinness World Records, making the festival a proud moment for Punekars.

A Citywide Reading Initiative
One of the highlights of the festival is the innovative program “Shantata… Punekar Vachat Ahet” (Silence… Punekars Are Reading), set to take place on December 11 from 12 pm to 1 pm. The initiative encourages lakhs of Punekars to read simultaneously, wherever they may be. Participants will register via a QR code, providing the book title, reading location, and a photo to document their participation.

The goal is to surpass last year’s participation numbers, which were in the thousands, and engage an even larger audience. “This event symbolizes the collective literary spirit of Pune and aims to promote reading as a communal activity,” organizers added.

A Festival for Everyone
The Pune Book Festival 2024 is designed to ensure public participation remains at its core. The emphasis on inclusivity and creativity aims to inspire people from all walks of life to explore the joy of books and culture.

For Punekars, the festival is not just an event but an opportunity to celebrate their city’s rich legacy of intellectual and cultural pursuits. With the addition of the world record attempts, this year’s festival is poised to leave a lasting impact.
