Wadgaon Sheri, 18th October 2024: All political parties have begun screening candidates in preparation for the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections. Similarly, interviews of interested candidates are being conducted by various parties. A few days ago, interviews of prospective candidates from the Nationalist Congress Sharadchandra Pawar Party (NCP-SP) were held. Yesterday, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Maharashtra State President Chandrashekhar Bawankule met with candidates in Pune city.

In this context, BJP’s former MLA from Wadgaon Sheri Constituency, Jagdish Mulik, also met with Bawankule. Mulik has expressed interest in contesting from Wadgaon Sheri, though this seat is currently held by the Ajit Pawar-led NCP, with Sunil Tingre as the sitting MLA.

There has been ongoing discussion about the BJP potentially contesting this seat, and it is speculated that Mulik met Bawankule to discuss this possibility. Regarding seat allocation within the Mahayuti, Bawankule stated that 90% of the seats have been agreed upon, and the remaining will be finalized soon. He mentioned upcoming discussions in New Delhi regarding the party manifesto and emphasized that both central and state governments will work for the people, referring to the “double engine” concept for governance. He also warned that the Mahavikas Aghadi may mislead the Maharashtrian people.

Bawankule added that a meeting of the BJP Parliamentary Board had been held regarding the Legislative Assembly Elections, and the decision on candidate nominations rests entirely with the board. While the list of candidates will be announced soon, he could not specify a timeline. He emphasized that all members of the Mahayuti will work for whoever receives the nomination. Candidates will be selected based on merit and eligibility, with no bias in seat allocation. Where a friendly party has a stronger candidate, compromises will be made to ensure victory. He assured that efforts would be made to prevent any disputes within the Mahayuti over candidate nominations.
