Pune, 30th July 2024: In the Kothrud Constituency, 46,900 voter names were omitted in the last Lok Sabha elections. Due to numerous errors across all eight constituencies near Pune, many voters were unable to vote in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. To rectify these mistakes and ensure people can vote, Maharashtra’s Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil, along with a delegation from the Pune Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), have made a demand to Pune District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase.

The BJP delegation met with Collector Dr Diwase to address the faulty voter list from the last Lok Sabha elections, ahead of the upcoming Maharashtra Legislative Assembly elections. During the meeting, the delegation highlighted the errors in the voter list.

Present at the meeting were Minister Chandrakant Patil, Parvati MLA Madhuri Misal, Khadakwasla MLA Bhimrao Tapkir, Shivajinagar MLA Siddharth Shirole, MLC Yogesh Tilekar, BJP Pune City President Dheeraj Ghate, and Maharashtra State Vice President Rajesh Pandey.

Minister and Kothrud MLA Chandrakant Patil said, “In the Lok Sabha elections, 46,900 voter names were omitted. Also, in the Nagpur Lok Sabha Constituency, more than 1 lakh voters were omitted. Due to names being omitted from the voter list, eligible voters couldn’t exercise their right to vote. Additionally, due to a lack of awareness by the Election Commissioner of India (ECI), people over the age of 85 were also unable to vote.”

MLA Misal mentioned that at voting centres, slow-paced processes caused significant difficulties for voters. MLC Tilekar echoed these sentiments, stating that due to untimely information at voting centres, many could not exercise their right to vote. MLA Shirole and MLA Tapkir also shared similar concerns.
