Pune: Birth Centenary Celebrations of Tabla Samrat Padma Vibhushan Pandit Kishen Maharaj
Pune, 29th August 2023:Music enthusiasts can enjoy a two-day music festival ‘Shraddha Suman’ which will be held in the city to mark the Birth Centenary Celebrations of Tabla Samrat Padma Vibhushan Pandit Kishen Maharaj. Talayan Music Circle presents ‘Shraddha Suman’ will take place on Friday, 1st September, and Saturday, 2nd September at the MES Auditorium, Kothrud. The program is ticketed and will begin at 5 pm.
To pay tribute to his Guru and Tabla Maestro Padma Vibhushan Pandit Kishen Maharaj, Pandit Arvind Kumar Azad has been organizing a yearly concert for the last 28 years. To mark his Birth Centenary this year, concerts starting from September 2022 have been arranged. This makes it even more momentous as a Legend’s Birth Centenary Year is being celebrated with prestigious artists performing for twelve consecutive months in the history of Indian Classical Music.
Shraddha Suman’s first day will begin with Pt. Arvind Kumar Azad, a student of Pt. Kishen Maharaj of Banaras Gharana. He is also known for his mastery in playing ‘Teentaal’ on Tabla with one finger. It will be followed with a performance of the well-known Kashyap Bandhu – Prabhakar and Diwakar Kashyap (Classical Vocals), also the students of Banaras Gharana’s Padma Bhushan Pandit Rajan Mishra and Pandit Sajan Mishra.
The second day of the festival will commence with Rudrashankar Mishra’s performance, a Kathak Dancer from Banaras Gharana, and the student of Mataprasad Mishra and his uncle Ravi Shankar Mishra. Padma Shri Malini Awasthi, a student of the legendary Hindustani Classical Singer, Padma Vibhushan Vidushi Girija Devi of Banaras Gharana will perform Thumris. Lastly, an acclaimed violinist, Padma Bhushan Dr N Rajam will also perform to celebrate the special occasion.
The artists will be accompanied by Pt. Dharmnath Mishra (Harmonium), Pt. Arvind Kumar Azad (Tabla), Neeraj Kumar Mishar (Sitar) and Sandeep Mishra (Sarangi). The event will be comperedby Anand Deshmukh.
