Pune, 7th April 2023: The Civil Registration System (CRS) developed by the Central Government, which is responsible for registering births and deaths in Pune, has been closed since 5th April, causing inconvenience to the citizens.

Prior to March 2019, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) managed the process through its own computer system, but the CRS system was implemented across all places thereafter. However, the current issue with the system has resulted in difficulties for citizens in registering births and deaths, and obtaining related certificates.

The state government has contacted the Technical Department of the central government to address the issue, and the centre has assured them that steps are being taken to restart the CRS system. However, there is no indication of when the system will resume its operations. Until then, citizens will have to wait to receive birth and death certificates.

The temporary closure of the CRS system has caused significant inconvenience for citizens, who are now unable to access official documents required for various purposes such as admissions, government schemes, passports, and more. The PMC has urged the central government to expedite the process of restarting the system to restore normalcy and avoid further difficulties for citizens.
