Pune: Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Arrest Accused In Firing On Kirana Shop Owner, 3 Persons Still Wanted

Katraj, 18th March 2021: The officials from Bharati Vidyapeeth police station, Pune city police, have solved the case of firing on a Kirana shop owner in Duttnagar last month. One accused has been arrested while his three accomplices are on the run.

Based on a complaint from injured trader Vishal Pralhad Punjabi (36), a case of attempt to murder was registered against unidentified persons. The incident had taken place on the night of February 14 when Punjabi was standing outside his shop in Duttnagar.

According to police, unidentified persons had fired on Punjabi. The accused persons had fled while Punjabi was rushed to a hospital. Teams from the Detection Branch (DB) of Bharati Vidyapeeth police station and Crime Branch were searching for the accused persons.

Acting on a tip-off received by Constable Jagdish Khedkar, a team nabbed accused Ashok Gavai in Ambegaon. The accused had fired on Punjabi for robbery purpose. Police said that Gavai was involved in the crime with the help of his wanted accomplices Ramdhan Bhagirath Vishwakarma, Raja Singh alias Rajkumar and Suraj Kumar, all natives of Basti district of Uttar Pradesh, who lived in Santoshnagar in Katraj.

The action was taken under the guidance of DCP (Zone 2) Sagar Patil and ACP (Swargate division) Sushma Chavan. The team included Senior Police Inspector Jaganath Kalaskar, Police Inspector (Crime) Sangita Yadav, Assistant Police Inspector Prakash Pasalkar, Police Sub Inspector Vaibhav Pawar, Head Constable Ganesh Sutar, Police Naik Pranav Sankpal, Mangesh Borude, Constables Jagdish Khedkar, Shivdatta Gaikwad and Santosh Anushe.
