Bavdhan, 11th August 2024: In a powerful display of community activism, the Bavdhan Citizens Forum organized a silent protest under the banner “Basics First” to address a range of issues plaguing the neighborhood, including poor walkability, deteriorating road conditions, encroachments, vandalized “No Parking” signs, and the lack of essential parking signage on the streets of Bavdhan. The protest, organised on Saturday, saw more than 300 residents march silently from Chandani Chowk to Axis Bank Corner, urging local authorities to take immediate action to improve the area’s infrastructure.

This demonstration was more than just a gathering; it represented the collective voice of Bavdhan’s residents, who are increasingly frustrated by the neglect of basic civic amenities. Protesters carried signs calling for safer pedestrian paths, better-maintained roads, and urban planning that meets the daily needs of the community.

The “Basics First” movement has garnered widespread support from the Bavdhan community, with 51 residential societies, representing approximately 16,000 residents, formally backing the cause. These societies have expressed their concerns through official letters, highlighting the pressing need for improved infrastructure.

A representative from the Bavdhan Citizens Forum stated, “Our silent protest is a peaceful but firm message to the authorities that basic infrastructure, like walkable streets and well-maintained roads, should not be overlooked. The strong backing from so many societies highlights how urgent these issues are.”

The protest underscores the growing frustration among Bavdhan’s residents over the lack of maintenance and development in their area. As part of their ongoing campaign, the Bavdhan Citizens Forum, supported by various residential societies, has drafted a formal petition that will be submitted to local municipal officials, calling for a thorough review and prompt improvements to the roads and pedestrian pathways.

This silent protest is just the beginning of a broader movement aimed at making Bavdhan a safer and more accessible place for all its residents. The organizers are optimistic that their peaceful demonstration will lead to meaningful changes in the near future.
