Pune: Autorickshaw Drivers Eveteasing In Mohammadwadi, Citizens Demand Action
Kondhwa, 31st July 2022: Mohammadwadi residents today demanded the arrest of a gang of autorickshaw drivers who are running their auto stand illegally from outside the Mohammadwadi amenity plot.
Today evening, the auto drivers created a ruckus after they were questioned over their illegal drinking in autorickshaws and resorting to eve-teasing of young women in the area. The residents alleged that a section of auto drivers are taking the law into their hands and were actively passing lewd comments and making obscene gestures at the women.
Residents of the area shared photos of the auto drivers taking the law into their hands and demanded police patrolling in the area.
Sanjay Kulkarni, a local resident, said “We want an end to the auto drivers’ criminal menace outside Ganga Kingston and Imperial Society in Mohammadwadi. The drivers run an illegal stand and take drugs and alcohol and pass comments including making obscene gestures at the women.”
Another resident added, “The women are afraid to step out on the road due to some criminals operating in the guise of auto drivers. A group of four youngsters who are auto drivers run this gang and have become very dangerous for the lives of women in the area.”
Women residents of the area demanded that special Damini Squads must be pressed into action to curb the rising incidents of molestation and intimidation of the auto drivers in Mohammadwadi.
When contacted, Pune city police officials assured of action and patrolling in the area.
