Pune: Art exhibition featuring artists from Defence Tri services and emerging practicing artists

Pune, 7th April 2025: Veva Art presents the ‘New Wave Art Initiative’ (NWAI), a groundbreaking platform designed to highlight the work of undiscovered and emerging artists from diverse backgrounds. Conceptualized by Malavika Gaur and Jehan Kothary, the exhibition will take place at The Box in Erandwane from Friday, April 11, to Sunday, April 13.

On April 11, the exhibition will be open exclusively to invitees from 5 pm to 8 pm. It will then be open for all on April 12 and 13, from 10 am to 6 pm. The exhibition is free of cost.

The New Wave Art Initiative is dedicated to breaking down barriers within the art community, bringing together talented individuals from diverse backgrounds, and providing them with a prominent platform to showcase their work.

We are delighted to introduce the New Wave Art Initiative as part of our commitment to nurturing and promoting emerging talent,” said Jehan Kothary, Co-Founder of Veva Art. “NWAI brings together artists from diverse backgrounds and provides them with a deserving platform. This platform includes artists from the defense forces, such as Army, Air Force, and Navy officers and personnel, as well as those from civil services, corporates, art institutions, and professional artists,” he
added.

After receiving an overwhelming response for their exhibition in Delhi last year, organizer Malavika Gaur who is also the wife of a serving Air Force officer said “This initiative promotes diversity and inclusion in the arts, showcasing talented artists from defense and civil services, which will resonate with Pune’s culturally inclined
audience. Over the past 8 months, more than 1200 artists have got in touch with us to be a part of this initiative.”

Renowned artist Raju Sutar has curated the exhibition. Raju Sutar mentioned that the New Wave Art Initiative (NWAI) celebrates creativity, resilience, and diversity. “The NEW WAVE ART INITIATIVE celebrates creativity, resilience, and diversity. Working with these artists has been an inspiring experience. Their unique perspectives bring a fresh and powerful narrative to the world of contemporary art,” he added.

The exhibition in Pune will be inaugurated on Friday, April 11, at 5 p.m. and will be open exclusively to invitees thereafter. On Saturday and Sunday, it will be open to all from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The exhibition will feature artwork by over 40 artists from diverse backgrounds, including defense personnel. This unique event celebrates the artistic talents of India’s defense personnel, bringing their powerful stories and emotions to life through art.
