Pune, 8th April 2025: All units of the Army Ordnance Corps (AOC) under the Southern Command celebrated their 250th Corps Day on Tuesday, marking a major milestone in the history of one of the Indian Army’s key logistical arms.

The AOC, which is responsible for the supply of ammunition, vehicles, and stores to the Indian Army, traces its origins to 1775, when it was established as the ‘Board of Ordnance’ under British rule. Initially tasked with the systematic distribution of weapons and equipment to the British Army, the organization evolved significantly over the years.

In 1922, it was formally renamed the Indian Army Ordnance Corps, and after India became a Republic in 1950, the prefix “Indian” was dropped, making it the Army Ordnance Corps as known today.

To commemorate the occasion, Lt Gen Dhiraj Seth, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Command, extended his greetings and felicitated all ranks and civilian staff associated with AOC.

He praised their professionalism, dedication, and continued commitment to ensuring seamless logistical support for the Indian Army.

The event celebrated the Corps’ 250 years of distinguished service in supporting frontline operations and maintaining military readiness through effective logistical operations across diverse and often challenging terrains.
