Pune: Anti-Extortion Squad Seizes Pistols, Arrests Two Criminals in Mangalwar Peth Operation

Pune, 14th August 2024: A notorious history-sheeter was found in possession of two pistols and four live cartridges in Pune. The Anti-Extortion Squad of the Crime Branch, Pune City Police Commissionerate, arrested the criminal near the Mutha River Bridge in Mangalwar Peth. The individual confessed to selling weapons to another person, leading to the arrest of the buyer by the Anti-Extortion Squad 1.

Bobby Bhagwat Surawase (age 28, resident of Yerawada) and Vaibhav Chandrakant Kolte (age 32, resident of Purandar) were both arrested by Pune Police. A case has been registered against them at Faraskhana Police Station under the relevant sections of the Arms Act of 1959 and the Maharashtra Police Act of 1951.

According to police reports, senior officials of the Pune Police Commissionerate have instructed officers to search for and arrest individuals carrying weapons without licenses, known history-sheeters, and absconding or externed criminals. Today, while patrolling, officers from the Anti-Extortion Squad received confidential information that an individual was standing on the Mutha River Bridge in Mangalwar Peth with weapons. Police set a trap and caught Surawase. Upon searching and interrogating him, they found a country-made pistol and two live cartridges.

Surawase, a known history sheeter with previous cases against him, revealed during questioning that he had sold another country-made pistol and two live cartridges to Kolte. Kolte was subsequently arrested, and a total of two country-made pistols and four live cartridges were seized. Assistant Police Inspector Abhijeet Patil from Anti-Extortion Squad 1 is investigating the case further.

This operation was conducted under the guidance of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Shailesh Balkawade, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Nikhil Pingale, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime 1) Ganesh Ingale. The team was led by Police Inspector Shailesh Sankhe and included Assistant Police Inspectors Vijay Kumar Shinde and Abhijeet Patil, along with Police Constables Mayur Bhokare, Amol Avad, Nitin Kamble, Duryodhan Gurav, Rajendra Landge, Sayaji Chavan, Prafulla Chavan, Amar Pawar, Ravindra Phulpagare, Madhukar Tupsaundar, Praveen Dhamal, and Gitanjali Jambhulkar.
