Pune: Another Fire Engulfs Chikhali’s Manufacturing Sector: Concerns Mount Amid Frequent Incidents
Chikhali, 6th June 2024: The fire incidents in the Pimpri Chinchwad area show no signs of abating. This morning, yet another fire erupted, engulfing multiple companies involved in the manufacturing of rubber products. Although no lives were lost and no injuries were reported, the repeated occurrence of such incidents is becoming a growing concern for citizens in Chikhali.
The latest fire occurred around 8 AM today in Pawar Wasti, affecting V-Rub Suspensions Pvt Ltd and RK Traders. Machinery within these companies suffered heavy damage from the fire, the cause of which remains undetermined. Fire vehicles from various fire stations including Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) Main, Chikhali, Talawade, Pradhikaran, Pimpri, Thergaon, and Moshi rushed to the scene and successfully extinguished the blaze.
In the wake of recent tragedies, the PCMC had instructed all establishments to submit reports outlining their fire prevention measures and compliance with fire safety regulations. The PCMC Fire Brigade reported that both V-Rub Suspensions Pvt Ltd and RK Traders had failed to adhere to previous directives, resulting in significant damage. Consequently, punitive measures may be taken against them.
Just a few days ago, Sanjivan Sangale, president of the Chikhali-Moshi-Pimpri Chinchwad City Housing Society Federation, voiced concerns to PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh regarding the proliferation of unauthorized scrap shops, particularly in Kudalwadi Chikhali. These shops engage in hazardous activities such as burning plastics and chemicals, posing environmental and fire hazards, especially in close proximity to major petrol pumps.
Despite assurances from Commissioner Singh and ongoing efforts to enforce fire safety regulations and disconnect utilities from non-compliant establishments, residents have yet to witness tangible improvements. The community is urging the PCMC to implement stricter measures to address these persisting concerns.
