Pune and Central Railway Benefit from Union Budget 2024: Key Allocations Announced

Pune, 23rd July 2024: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman’s Union Budget 2024 has allocated substantial funds to the Pune division and Central Railway, signaling a significant boost to railway infrastructure and facilities.

New Projects and Doubling Initiatives

New Line: A new 54 km line between Baramati and Lonand has been earmarked for development.

Doubling Projects: The Pune-Miraj-Londa route, spanning 467 km, will see a doubling initiative with an allocation of ₹200 crore.

Safety and Traffic Facilities

Safety Fund: A substantial safety fund of ₹330 crore has been allocated.
Hadapsar Satellite Terminal: ₹2 crore has been designated for the development of the Hadapsar satellite terminal.
Pune Yard Remodelling: ₹25 crore will be invested in remodelling the Pune yard.
Consolidated Central Railway Traffic Facilities: Various umbrella works under Central Railway will receive ₹120 crore.

Level Crossings and Bridges

Level Crossing Works: ₹0.80 crore will be used for interlocking works on the Pune division’s level crossings.
Road Over/Under Bridges: ₹22.5 crore has been allocated for Road Over Bridges (ROBs) and ₹5 crore for Road Under Bridges (RUBs) in the Pune-Miraj section.
Central Railway ROB Works: An impressive ₹465 crore has been allocated for ROB works under various umbrella schemes.

Track Renewal and Bridge Works

Track Renewal: The Pune division will receive ₹85 crore for track renewal works.
Bridge Works: Central Railway’s bridge projects under various umbrella works will be funded with ₹173 crore.

Signalling and Telecom

Signalling Works: ₹1 crore has been allocated for continuous track circuit work on the Pune-Lonavala route.
Central Railway Signalling and Telecom: Consolidated funding for signalling and telecom works under various umbrella projects totals ₹130 crore.

Traction and Electrical Works

Electrification: Consolidated funds for traction and electrical general works under Central Railway amount to ₹340 crore.
Upgradation: The Lonavala-Pune route will see an upgradation of protection systems and SCADA systems with an investment of ₹0.35 crore.

Passenger and Customer Amenities

Soft Upgradation: ₹283 crore will be allocated for soft upgradation of stations and Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) as part of two umbrella works for FY 2023-24.
Major Upgradation: ₹505 crore is designated for major upgradation work under the 2022 umbrella scheme.
Total Funding: Including these projects, the total fund for Central Railway passenger amenities is approximately ₹900 crore.

The Union Budget 2024 promises to bring significant improvements to the railway infrastructure and passenger amenities in the Pune division and Central Railway, reflecting a commitment to enhancing rail travel and safety.
