Baramati, 9th September 2024: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar hinted that he would not contest the upcoming elections while expressing his regret over the defeat of his wife Sunetra Pawar in the Lok Sabha elections. Pawar said, “If this happens to people who have been earlier elected with lakhs of votes due to development works, then it is better not to stand for the election.”

Pawar created a stir in the political circles by saying that he is not interested in contesting elections from Baramati. Against this backdrop, in a program held at Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Bhawan in Baramati on Sunday (8th September), Pawar said, “Apart from me, Baramati should get some other MLA. If someone else becomes an MLA other than me, the people of Baramati will understand.”

“From 1991 to 2024, Baramatikar gave me an opportunity. My work cannot be compared with any other MLA. I still have a lot of work to do in the Baramati constituency. It is up to the people of Baramati whether I should continue my work or not. If I have to see defeat after doing all the work, I better not stand for the election!” Pawar added further.

Pawar became the Deputy Chief Minister of the state five times. Sharad Pawar became Chief Minister four times and Ajit Pawar took charge of the Finance Department.

“Through the Finance Department, I carefully thought about how to bring funds to the constituency. A few days ago someone commented on my work in the department. Let them say what they want to say, we don’t need to pay attention,” he criticized Baramati MP Supriya Sule.
