Pimpri Chinchwad, 24th July 2024: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has approved the transfer of 13 acres of land from the Maharashtra State Government’s Department of Animal Husbandry to the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) for development. The land, located in Tathawade, will be used for civil facilities, including the proposed Sewage Treatment Plant (STP), Spine Road, water tanks, fire brigade, and other infrastructure.

Ajit Pawar reviewed the STP project and the Spine Road, which is proposed to be developed on the Department of Animal Husbandry land, through an online meeting. The meeting was attended by Rajesh Kumar, Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying; Dr. KH Govinda Raj, Principal Secretary of the Urban Development Department; Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Pune Divisional Commissioner; Pune District Collector Dr. Suhas Diwase; PCMC Commissioner Shekhar Singh; and Commissioner of Animal Husbandry Kaustubh Diwegaonkar.

With the rapidly increasing population in the PCMC and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) jurisdictions and the influx of new IT companies and other industries, the transfer of 13 acres of land from the Department of Animal Husbandry to PCMC is essential. This land, which is in a prime location, will be used to build the Spine Road and STP as part of the development plan. Some civic amenities have been reserved on this land.

The Department of Animal Husbandry is supportive of transferring the land to PCMC. Therefore, Ajit Pawar has directed that the proposal for the land transfer, required for PCMC’s civil facilities, should be submitted to the Animal Husbandry Department immediately. Compensation for the land will be determined after evaluation by the Animal Husbandry Department. PCMC should take possession of the land as soon as possible upon payment of the compensation.

Deputy Chief Minister and Pune District Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar stated, “13 acres of land is proposed for the Spine Road, flyover, sewage plant, and other development works. If necessary, increase this area and submit a new proposal. PCMC should prepare a detailed plan for the use of this space.”

Traffic Problems to Resolve

A Spine Road is a major route designed to handle high traffic volumes, connecting key areas within a development or urban zone. It facilitates efficient movement and connectivity, serving as a central route in the transportation network. Areas like Tathawade, Ravet, Wakad, Punawale, and Hinjawadi currently face significant traffic issues. A 45-meter Spine Road has been proposed, stretching from Walhekarwadi Chowk in Chinchwad to Dairy Farm Chowk on Aundh-Ravet BRTS Road in Tathawade, to alleviate traffic congestion. Once the land is acquired, construction of the road will commence, which is expected to mitigate traffic problems and ease congestion for residents.
