Viman Nagar, 14th July 2024: To enhance the passenger experience at Pune Airport, the new Integrated Terminal Building was officially operationalized today, in the presence of Murlidhar Mohol, Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Cooperation, along with dignitaries from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), airlines, and the state administration.

Two airlines, Air India and Air India Express, have started operating from the new terminal building from today. The inaugural flights were Air India Flight AI-858 (Pune–Delhi) and Air India Express Flight I5-320 (Pune–Bhubaneswar). Minister Mohol facilitated the passengers by handing them their boarding passes. The remaining airlines operating at Pune Airport will begin operations from the new building in a phased manner.

With a massive built-up area of over 52,000 sq. m., the new terminal building at Pune Airport has a passenger handling capacity of 9 million passengers per annum (MPPA) to cater to the increasing air traffic. The state-of-the-art building is centrally air-conditioned and features five additional passenger boarding bridges, bringing the total to ten. This will provide convenience and hassle-free movement for passengers from the terminal building to the aircraft. The new terminal also boasts 34 check-in counters and 25 self-check-in counters to offer a faster check-in experience for travelers.

The building is designed to be energy-efficient and has received a Four-Star GRIHA rating. It includes 915 sq. m. of space for food and beverage outlets and 1,206 sq. m. of space for retail outlets, enhancing the overall passenger experience with ample opportunities for refreshment and shopping.

The new terminal is equipped with an In-Line Hold Baggage Handling System (ILHBS) – an automated system with multiple levels of security screening that uses the latest and superior technology installed across major airports in India. This system allows for a more efficient check-in process by enabling passengers to avoid queuing near the X-ray machines for baggage scanning before check-in.
