Pune, 12th August 2024: Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) from Nashik’s Teacher Constituency, Kishore Darade, is under scrutiny following a viral video showing him and his drivers involved in a confrontation with Pune residents during a traffic jam. The video, which has garnered widespread attention, shows Darade being challenged for not wearing a seatbelt and for having a beacon installed on his car. In response, Advocate Vikas Himmatrao Shinde has called for action.

Advocate Shinde has written to the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, the Transport Commissioner, the Director General of Police, the Pune City Police Commissioner, and the Regional Transport Officer of Pune, urging them to take action against MLC Darade. Shinde expressed concern that such incidents are becoming commonplace and that respect for authorities appears to be waning in Maharashtra.

The letter highlights that the viral video shows a Toyota Innova with a beacon transporting Darade, calling for an investigation and appropriate action against him. It emphasizes that the video’s circulation does not imply that such incidents are rare. The letter also notes a growing disregard for police and administrative authority in Maharashtra, citing instances where criminals use ambulances to transport illegal goods.

Furthermore, Shinde’s letter points out that unauthorized use of stickers and signs, including “Maharashtra Government,” “Police,” and “Judge,” is increasing. These signs are being misused by criminals and illegal operators to avoid prosecution. The letter also criticizes the use of Vidhan Bhavan entry stickers by relatives and friends of MLAs and MLCs who do not have the right to use them. It references past cases, such as the Pune Porsche case and the Puja Khedkar case, to highlight the reactive nature of authorities. Shinde concludes by urging the concerned authorities to take immediate and effective action.
