Pune, 5th January 2024: As the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) progresses with its development plan, the administration has initiated the auction process for two plots in Maan village near Hinjawadi IT Park. PMRDA announced that these plots, valued at crores of rupees, will be allocated for educational purposes.

However, objections have been raised by former corporators, including Ujjwal Keskar, Prashant Badhe, and Suhas Kulkarni, who have urged Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to suspend the auction process.

The crucial phase of preparing the Development Plan (DP) for PMRDA is underway, with the proposed plan’s intention announced as per Section 23 of the Maharashtra Regional Planning and Town Planning Act. While the development plan is in its final stage and awaits approval from the state government, PMRDA has already initiated the auction process for two facility area plots. Despite objections and two pending petitions in the Bombay High Court, the administration has decided to allocate these plots in Maan village for educational purposes.

Former corporators argue that while they support the use of public facility areas, auctioning amenity areas without a utilization plan and approved development plan is inappropriate. They further object to the auction, claiming that specifying educational purposes limits competition, as it seems tailored for particular educational institutions.

The two plots in Maan village, measuring 6,247.46 square meters and 13,565.17 square meters, will be auctioned with respective values of 5 crore 4 lakh 18 thousand and 10 crore 94 lakh 71 thousand. PMRDA’s advertisement states that the auction process commenced on January 3rd, with a decision scheduled for January 31st. The objections raised by former corporators add another layer of complexity to this ongoing process.
