Pune: Accidents Involving PMPML Buses Increase In Last 1.5 Year, Overtime By Contractual Buses Driver Among Reasons To Blame

Pune 5th August 2023: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has reported a significant increase in the number of accidents reported involving buses in the last 15 months in the city. According to an official data accessed by Indian Express, a total of 161 accidents involving PMPML busee have been reported between April 2022 and July 2023 in the city compared to 95 accidents reported between April 2021 and July 2022.

A total of 26 people have been killed in the accidents reported in the last 15 months compared to 22 casualties reported between April 2021 and July 2022. According to PMPML officials, a total of 65 of these accidents (11 casualties) were reported with the buses owned by PMPML while 96 accidents (15 casualties) were reported with the buses owned by contractors.

The officials have blamed the contractors for increased number of accidents as it is claimed that the drivers working on the contractual buses work in double shifts which causes the accidents. A zero tolerance policy will soon be enforced against such drivers to ensure safety of the passengers, officials said.
