Pune ACB Case: Former Deputy Director of Education and Wife Accused of Illicit Assets

Pune, 4th July 2024: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) investigation has revealed that the former Deputy Director of Education for the Pune Division and his wife are implicated in acquiring assets disproportionate to their known income. It has been established that they amassed assets worth Rs. 31,78,200, which is 25.26% more than their legitimate income. The case, covering the period from March 2002 to February 2020, has been registered in Pune.

ACB Police Inspector Rupesh Jadhav reported the matter to the Bund Garden Police Station, leading to the filing of a case against Praveen Vasant Ahire (46, former Deputy Director of Education, now Education Officer (Secondary) of Nandurbar) and his wife Smita Praveen Ahire (41, resident of Nashik) under IPC Section 109 and relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

The ACB investigation uncovered properties acquired by Praveen Ahire that significantly exceeded his and his wife’s declared income. During his tenure as a public servant, they allegedly acquired assets worth Rs. 31,78,000 through corrupt practices. Consequently, a case has been registered against both individuals for acquiring inconsistent and unaccounted assets. Police Inspector Praveen Nimbalkar is leading the further investigation into the matter.
