Pune : 3 petrol pump staff arrested ATM card data theft, siphoning off cash

Pune, January 16, 2020 : The Pune City Police Cyber Crime Branch have arrested four persons including three attendants of a petrol pump in Camp area and their handler for installing skimming sensors on debit/ credit card readers and using the data to siphon off money from the accounts of the card holders, who had swiped for petrol/diesel.

The arrested persons have been identified as Mithun Ali, Noel Shaikh, Saimuddin Ali and Zulfikar Ahmed, all residents of Malda in West Bengal.

According to police, they have received about 60 complaints in last two weeks. The accused persons used to steal card data with the help of skimming machine and noted down PIN when people were paying the amount through card. Later they sold the data to two persons in Delhi who would make clone card and withdrawing cash.

 

A team led by ACP (crime) Shivaji Pawar and senior police inspector Jayram Paygude arrested the accused persons and have recovered seven cellphones, 20 fake debit cards, 12 original debit cards, ID cards, Aadhaar cards and Rs 1,230 in cash, from their possession.

Police officials said that Mithun, Noel, and Saimuddin had started working at the petrol pump three months ago and were from the same village. They would sell the data to Zulfikar, who in turn, sold it to two Delhi-based men who paid all four between Rs 20,000 and Rs 30,000.
