Pune: 29 Tourists Rescued from Severe Flooding in Maval Taluka as Indrayani River Overflows

Lonavala, 24th July 2024: Intense rainfall in Maval Taluka has led to severe flooding, with the Indrayani River in Karla overflowing and creating a flood-like situation. The heavy rain has caused some tourists to become stranded in various locations.

The Shivdurg Mitra Lonavala team swiftly mobilized to assist, successfully evacuating 29 tourists earlier today. Floodwaters have infiltrated several residential societies in Malavli, Boraj, Sadapur, and Deola areas. Additionally, 22 tourists were trapped in a bungalow behind Samparc Balgram in the Bhaje area, while 7 tourists were stranded in Karla.

The rescue operation, led by the Shivdurg Mitra Lonavala team members Mahesh Masne, Yogesh Dalvi, Sagar Dalvi, Ajay Mayekar, Aditi Gaikwad, Sunil Gaikwad, and Sagar Kumbar, in conjunction with Assistant Police Sub-Inspector Navjivan Jadhav and Police Constables Sitaram Bokad, Vijay Munde, Santosh Wadekar, and Rohit Gaikwad, was successful with support from the Maval Taluka administration and local citizens.

The heavy rain continues to impact Maval Taluka. In Lonavala and Karla, the Indrayani River’s water levels have risen significantly, submerging many roads and disrupting daily life. Areas such as Karla, Sadapur, Pathargaon, Kamshet, Boraj, Malavli, and Deola are experiencing river water extending beyond its usual boundaries, affecting homes and societies along the riverbanks.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), rainfall intensity is expected to increase over the next 24 hours. With additional water being released from the dam, the administration advises citizens to leave their homes only if absolutely necessary and to remain indoors otherwise.
