Pune: 21-Year-Old Woman Gang-Raped at Bopdev Ghat, Three Suspects Booked

Kondhwa, 4th October 2024: A 21-year-old woman was gang-raped while she was on a late-night walk with her friend at Bopdev Ghat. The crime took place around 11 p.m. on Thursday night, and a case has since been registered at the Kondhwa police station. The police have booked three suspects in connection with the case.

According to police, the victim, originally from Surat, and her friend, a resident of Jalgaon, are both students at a college in Pune. On the night of the incident, they had gone for a walk on a two-wheeler to the isolated area of Bopdev Ghat. Around 11 p.m., three men approached them and gang-raped the young woman. Terrified and traumatized, the victim was rushed to a private hospital by her friend, where the assault was confirmed during a medical examination.

The hospital authorities informed the Kondhwa police, who registered the case at around 5 a.m. on Friday. The victim’s condition is being closely monitored, and she is receiving medical care.

Speaking on the matter, Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma stated that the area where the crime occurred is isolated and poorly lit. He further confirmed that the police were alerted in the early hours of Friday, and 10 crime branch teams have been dispatched to locate the accused.
