Pune, 2nd October 2024: A 19-year-old youth tragically drowned in a pit in the riverbed near Khadakwasla dam. The police and fire brigade have recovered the body. The Uttamnagar police identified the deceased as Mayur Ganesh Naidu, a resident of Bhairavanath Nagar, Kondhawe-Dhawade.

Mayur had visited Khadakwasla dam with his parents and cousins around 2:30 PM to wash bed covers and sheets in the water released from the dam. Confident in his swimming abilities, he jumped into the water but failed to resurface.

His mother, who had gone home to collect lunch, was informed of the mishap. In distress, she called for help, and their neighbors—Abhishek Kamble, Prashant Deshmukh, Anand More, and Maruti Chandilkar—rushed to Mayur’s house after hearing her screams. Upon learning of the incident, they immediately alerted the police and fire brigade and hurried to the scene.

Prashant Deshmukh also contacted MLA Bhimrao Tapkir, requesting the reduction of water flow from the dam. The flow was reduced, facilitating the search and rescue efforts.
