Yerwada, 23rd June 2023: A 17-year-old girl took her own life by jumping from a moving train. Ashwini Chavan, the victim, had allegedly been enduring constant mental and physical harassment from her father and stepmother, leading her to make this devastating decision.

The victim’s uncle, Shankar Rathod, has lodged a complaint against both her father, Namdev Tukaram Chavan, and stepmother.

According to the police, after Ashwini’s mother had passed away, her father got married again. He and her stepmother confined Ashwini to the house, denying her the opportunity to pursue education, subjecting her to physical abuse, and causing immense distress.

The family was travelling together by train from Gulbarga to Pune for a wedding when at Daund station, Ashwini jumped from the moving train, resulting in her immediate death.

Based on Rathod’s complaint, a case has been registered against Namdev Tukaram Chavan, the accused father, and the stepmother on charges of abetment to suicide. The investigation is currently underway.
