Pune : 14 Incidents of Power Cables Damage Due To Digging Reported In 15 Days, Claims MSEDCL
Pune 27th July 2023: The ongoing digging work at various places across the city has caused massive inconvenience to the citizens as it has now started disrupting power supplies by damaging the cables in several areas. The Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Corporation Ltd (MSEDCL) has claimed that a total of 14 such incidents have been reported across Pune in the last two weeks.
“In case of breakdown of a 22 KV power line, thousands of customers experience a power outage at the same time. As a result, the engineers and staff of the MSEDCL have to work tirelessly on the battlefield to rectify the situation” MSEDCL officials said.
The power utility also claimed that majority of such incidents were reported due to a digging work conducted by Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL). “Within 15 days of excavation work carried out by the MNGL, eight locations were found where underground power lines were damaged. This resulted in a disruption of electricity supply for around 40,000 customers. To reconnect these power lines, MSEDCL had to bear the cost of approximately Rs 4.50 lakh. Additionally, due to this power line damage, a loss of about 12 lakh units, equivalent to roughly Rs 1.20 crore also occurred” MSEDCL said.
The MSEDCL official have filed a police complaint in the matter against the MNGL. Besides, MSEDCL also suffered losses due to power line damage during the work undertaken by National Highway Authority (NHAI) at few locations.
“Due to not relocating the power lines during the road widening project, the road cross of MSWDCL’s 22 KV feeder at heights ranging from 15 to 20 feet has been buried. If any damage occurs to these power lines during the project, repairing them would be extremely critical and time-consuming” MSEDCL officials said.
