Prices Of Vegetables Increased Upto Rs 100 In Pune City
Pune, 28th May 2022: There is a shortage of quality fruits and vegetables in the suburbs, including the Pune city. Market demand is high and supply is low. As a result, the prices of most fruits and vegetables in the retail market have crossed Rs 100 per kg. The prices of some vegetables have gone up to Rs 150. The price of a bunch of leafy vegetables has gone up to Rs 40 to Rs 30.
The summer rains in the last two months have had a huge impact on fruits and vegetables. Summer heat and water scarcity have had a major impact on vegetable production. Also the grade of vegetables coming in the market is not so good. The demand for good vegetables is high in the market. As a result, vegetable prices have gone up. Also, the prices of vegetables will go up further explained Prakash Dhamdhere, a vegetable seller in the retail market.

Amol Ghule, a trader at Market Yard said, “Vegetables are in great demand from catering professionals as well as hoteliers. Wedding days are at a peak right now. So the demand is huge. Rising prices have emptied the pockets of common people while buying vegetables. There is a shortage of leafy vegetables and fruits. As a result, prices of leafy vegetables and fruits are on the rise. As long as market inflows do not increase, vegetable prices will continue to rise.”
“In order to take advantage of the increased price of lemons from the farmers in the market, small and raw lemons have been cut and sent to the market. The lemon was supposed to hit the market in June and July. Early breaks are now coming to market. Therefore, there is no expected interest in lemon coming in the market. Also, consumers are reluctant to buy it as it is raw,” said Rohan Jadhav, a lemon trader at Market Yard.
